Inspired Madness
THE WINE Inspired Madness is a mid-bodied red wine reminiscent of Beaujolais. It has sweet aromas of ripe black cherries and currents with a subtle acidity on the mid-palate.
FOOD PARING Because of its acidity it is a food friendly wine. Serve with grilled salmon, tuna, jambalaya, steak, and sharp cheeses. Serve at room temperature.
THE GRAPE This red wine is a blend of Maréchal Foch and Zweigelt grapes. Maréchal Foch is a popular hybrid cold hardy and disease resistant blue-black grape variety. It is classified as a teinturier, a kind of red grape variety where both the skin and the flesh of the grape is a deep red colour. This makes for deeply coloured wines. Maréchal Foch is a perfectly suited grape variety for the climate of hot days and cool nights of the Shuswap. The variety provided reliable yields and ripens early in the fall. Zweigelt grape is a blue-black coloured grape which yields attractively opulent red wines.
PARENTAGE The Marechal Foch grape was bred in France in the 1910’s by Eugene Kuhlmann, who crossed a Goldriesling and a native American Vitis riparia-rupestirs to create “Kuhlmann 188-2” It was named after Marechal Ferdinand Foch, a prominent French General of the First World War who handled the Armistice negotiations to end the war. Zweigelt is a breed created by Dr. Fritz Zweigelt in 1922 at the Teaching and Research Centre for Viticulture and Horticulture (LFZ) in Klosterneuburg by crossing a Blaufrankisch and a St. Laurent grape. This is a widespread grape originally found in Austria and since the second world war can be found in all wine growing regions throughout the world.

Natalie MacLean Wine Review October 2024
Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:
Inspired Madness is a great name for this wine because sometimes winemakers need a little of that to produce great wines like this Maréchal Foch and Zweigelt red wine blend from Celista Estate Winery. Inspired Madness 2021 is a Beaujolais-style red so fragrant with ripe dark cherry, red currant and raspberry aromas. Medium-bodied and lofty on the palate the wine is fresh and friendly with dark cherry, red berry, subtly spicy with velvety tannins and a long, fresh red berry/cherry finish. Very nicely done and very approachable now, enjoy it lightly chilled with a charcuterie and cheese platter or a traditional roast chicken dinner. Tasted October 2024.
